The origin of the Golden Teacher mushroom is unknown, though some believe that they were first discovered in Florida, Georgia, or Cuba in the 1980s. The preferred climate for growing Golden Teacher mushrooms is in tropical or subtropical areas since they flourish in temperatures ranging between 73 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit. Caps of the Golden Teacher mushroom tend to be a bit larger than other Psilocybe cubensis mushroom strains; with their maximum diameter reaching up to three inches, Golden Teacher caps are wider than those of Penis Envy mushrooms, Pink Buffalo mushrooms, and Burma cubensis mushrooms. These caps are usually somewhat cone- shaped while young, becoming flatter and less conical as they mature. Though the caps
are typically golden brown, they can appear more reddish early in their growth cycle. The gills of Golden Teacher mushrooms are unique in that they’re spaced close together and have a distinctive near-black coloration. Golden Teacher stems are whitish yellow and narrow, though they do taper outward and become wider toward the base. When Golden Teacher stems are bruised, they often become bluish gray in color. Characteristics

Cap: The caps on Golden Teacher mushrooms are relatively large in size, eventually reaching between two to three inches in diameter. Caps tend to be
yellowish-brown in color – which is where the name “Golden” comes from – and have pale spots dotting the surface.

Stem: Golden Teacher stems (also known as “stipes” in mycology) are thin, hollow, and pale yellow in color. They flare out toward the base and can reach up to 5 inches in length. When bruised, stems turn a dark blue-gray color.

Gills: The gills of the Golden Teacher mushroom grow close together and tend to be grayish during development, eventually turning almost black in color once they reach maturity.

Spores: Golden Teacher spores are dark purple in color and somewhat ellipsoid in shape.
